Glasshouse Quarry

Who we are

Hanson is one of Australia’s leading suppliers of essential materials to the construction industry, providing reliable and high quality rock, gravel, road base, sand, premixed concrete and asphalt.

We’ve been operating the Glasshouse Quarry for more than 17 years and the quarry has been providing reliable and high quality construction supplies since 1976.

Over 70% of our materials supply local projects, such as family homes, hospitals, schools, roads, airport runways and sea walls.

Our 30 onsite staff are locals, and some employees have worked at the quarry for over 30 years. Our team source supplies, equipment and services from local businesses wherever practical.

Our quarry manager, Chris Wilson, joined us in 2018 from the Pioneer North Queensland Edmonton Quarry, near Cairns which is also part of the Hanson group.

What we do

We extract rock from the quarry and process it into smaller material called aggregates. The aggregates are made into many different sizes to meet various customer needs.

As well as supplying material to our own concrete plants, we also supply many external customers including Sunshine Coast Council, the Queensland Government, small businesses and large private companies.

We are controlled by Council and Government regulations to ensure we operate with least impact to the community and environment. This is in addition to our high company standards for safety, quality and environmental protection.

To ensure we comply with our conditions of operation, we manage a network of environmental monitors around and outside of the quarry. This sensitive equipment monitors dust, vibration, air over-pressure (from blasts) and noise.

We report to the Government about our performance and are proud of our excellent compliance record. There is no impact to the Glass House mountains from our quarrying operations.

Our quarry operates from Monday-Saturday and we don’t work on Sundays or public holidays.
